With the objective of boosting the urban regeneration of Querétaro Downtown’s non-patrimonial perimeter, young local entrepreneurs introduced Órbita Coworks, a think tank and collaborative work center looking to gather 30 national and foreign companies in its building – generating an estimated revenue for over 20-million pesos – in the next six months.
Mariana Soto Jdourruamn, a well-known social entrepreneur and project leader, talked about the urgent need of a collaborative center like Órbita Coworks in the city downtown to “promote re-densification (…) under a mixed-uses scheme and taking advantage of the existent infrastructure and public inversions to better public services in the area over the last years.” Soto also believes that attracting new audiences and establishments to the area is the best way to detonate the post pandemic activity, creating an economic growth that will benefit Queretaro’s society.
Susana Argüelles, another important member of the Órbita team, pointed out that even if Querétaro has become one of the most important industrial clusters in North América, most companies have settled in new neighborhoods or outside the city. This has forced to expand the city’s urban spot with social, economic and environment consequences to the city population. This is the reason why Soto explains that one of the main proposals of the think tank is “to generate a series of public debates about the convenience of migrating to downtown while offering to startups, tech and creative companies, and members of the aeronautical cluster the ideal platform to responsibly establish themselves in town.”
Another goal of the work center is to sponsor scholarships and boosting programs to both entrepreneurs and creatives from Querétaro. Órbita Coworks is also in talks with leading companies in town such as Bombardier and Kellogg Company.
Órbita Coworks, located on 28 Ignacio Pérez Sur, has a total area of 1787 m² and a capacity for 186 people. It was inaugurated on December 1st.
Querétaro has consolidated as an industrial cluster for the Mexican aeronautical industry and an attractive investment option for investors in Mexico City, Toluca, Puebla, Guanajuato, Guadalajara, Zapopan, Zacatecas, Durango, Gómez Palacio, Torreón, Saltillo, Monterrey, Chihuahua, Tampico, Tijuana, Mexicali, Hermosillo, Obregón, Los Mochis, Culiacán, Mazatlán y Tepic.
