AMResorts will realize an investment of 400 million dollars in Mexico, with the opening of three new luxury hotels in Puerto Vallarta and Cancun. The chain will add 12 million dollars in remodeling and maintenance work to other hotels in the country and expects to reach 13,500 rooms by 2013, said the network's president, Alejandro Zozaya Gorostiza.

IHG, owner of the Intercontinental and Holiday Inn brands, will invest over 500 million dollars in the opening of 47 new hotels in Mexico over the next three years.

For its part, Grupo Posadas will invest around 500 million dollars in 50 projects of its brands Fiesta Americana, Fiesta Inn, One, Aqua, Caesar Park and Caesar Business.

The City Hotels chain plans to open 15 properties in 2012, adding 79 hotels in 29 states, City Express, City Suites and City Junior brands. Hotels City will have next openings in the cities of Villahermosa, Durango, Huatulco, Salina Cruz, Apizaco, Xalapa, Querétaro, Guadalajara, Tijuana, La Paz, Mexico City and Los Cabos.

In addition, Grupo Iberostar inaugurated the Hotel Iberostar Cancun, which had an investment of 100 million dollars. The Spanish company will resume construction of the first of four hotels at the Litibú Integrally Planned Center in Nayarit, Iberostar Group President Miguel Fluxá reported.

Also, the Quinta Inn & Suites announced the opening of the first part of the Quinta complex in Cancun, with an investment of 10 mdd. The new complex will focus on medical tourism and business, a sector with high potential in the entity.

The tequila company José Cuervo adds to the investment in hotel infrastructure, with 10 million dollars in the construction of the Hotel José Cuervo, in the town of Tequila Jalisco. The complex will be completed in July 2013 and will have 87 rooms.

Private investment in the tourism sector during the period 2007-2011 was 17.331 million dollars, 65% national and 35% foreign, said the Secretary of Tourism (Sectur).
