Investment in Mexico, BANCOMEX Boosts Medical Tourism Growth

 

Mexico City, September 10, 2014.- The National Bank for Foreign Trade (Bancomext) has allocated just over five thousand 500 million pesos to more than 900 companies in the sector of Medical Tourism, to attract investment and foreign exchange.

This has resulted in the construction of 28 thousand rooms, representing employment to 33 thousand people; 20 dental clinics; A medical center; And a project of long stays and residences for retirement communities.

This was detailed by Enrique de la Madrid, head of Bancomext, during his participation in the 2nd National Forum of Medical Tourism Coparmex 2014, adding that the goal is to turn medical tourism into a motor of growth.

On the credits granted, he explained that they are part of the structuring of direct and syndicated loans. They range from three million dollars and these resources can be used for investment, expansion or remodeling in health tourism, business and development.

On the other hand, up to 40 million pesos are provided for the granting of guarantees and funds for the development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) suppliers, for working capital and fixed assets.

On the sector, De la Madrid, and its impulse, it is necessary to invest in hospital infrastructure, financing, certifications and the support to the development of clusters in order to consolidate the vocation of medical tourism of the country.

Mexico is the second place in the world in medical tourism, by savings between 36 and 89% with respect to the United States

Specialists in the medical tourism sector estimate that the sector will register annual growth rate of 7.0% per year, as well as higher income, as happened in 2013, accounting for two thousand 847 million dollars, 10% more than in 2012.
